Hudson Valley Art and Writing Awards Winning Photos (Mine!)

For the third year in a row, I entered the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, which starts out on a regional level as the Hudson Valley Art and Writing Awards.
Awards are given in a variety of categories, 18 to be exact, and I entered 14 of my best photos, selected with the help of my art teacher.
On the regional level, I won a Gold Key for the 3rd year, the top prize, along with three silver keys, the second best prize. Here are my award winners

The Silver Key Photographs:

The Hummingbird at the Feeder

The Happiest Place on Earth

Now, my Gold Key Photo goes on to the national level for judging.

For the second year in a row, I think that my silver key photos are better than gold, but the art community thinks else wise.

Remember, the 12 Photos of 2012 Poll is still open, so if you have not yet voted, there is plenty of time. It is a heated race this year, and I am surprised that there are no standout winners. There are seven contenders out of the twelve that could pull ahead with just a few more votes.

Keep the votes coming!

The Last Day and why I’m crazy about the Sunrise….

I woke up today, and watched another beautiful sunrise
Here it is:

Why do I love the sunrise? Well, as a photographer who jumps at every chance he can get, I love the sunrise. It gives me a great photo opportunity practically everyday. It is also a symbol of the metamorphosis between night and day. Every living thing on the planet revolves around the sun, and the sun just happens to contribute to a great photo, or in this case, some great Time Lapse videos!

Well, unfortunately, our trip has come to an end. As I write this, I am sitting in our rental car, driving back to Orlando International from St. Petersburg after a few great days at the beach, the pool, and up on the balcony looking down at the intercostal between St. Pete Beach and St. Pete.

I hope you have enjoyed all of my trip updates and photos! I am proud to say that this has been my best couple of days for Blog views since I started this new blog.

An album of my pictures will be up on my main website ( I will most likely get them up there by tomorrow afternnoon.

Thanks for reading, and please continue to do so!

St. Petersburg Sunrise…

I took this time lapse, 60 Photos over a period of 60 minutes, 1 per minute this morning, with a great app for my iPad, iMotion HD. I highly recommend it for any Apple iOS device user.

Enjoy the sunrise that I enjoyed this morning!

Yesterday’s Sunrise Time Lapse is on my YouTube channel too! Check it out here.

Have a Great Day!

A Baseball Game at Tropicana Field

Yesterday afternoon, we saw the Tampa Bay Rays play my favorite team, the NY Yankees!

At first glimpse of the Ray’s Stadium, “The Trop” as they call it, I realized that the Rays run a different type of operation. First of all, they have a dome, an indoor stadium, air conditioned at 72 degrees at all times. That also means there’s fake grass, Astro Turf. Free parking on Sundays here, never would that happen in NY. They let kids onto the field, Astro Turf as I said, not grass, but more like carpet, after the game. Never would that happen at Yankee Stadium.

I’m still a Yankee fan, but I like the way they run things down here, less for a profit, more for fun.

Compared to the Yankees, who have fans worldwide, the Rays have a small fan-base. The issue is, to be a real fan of a team, you need to grow up with that team. A good group of Florida’s population have moved here from other places for retirement. They have already selected their team of choice. (Normally somewhere in the Northeast, the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Mets, Pirates, etc.). That is why the seats were packed with Yankee fans. The Yankees also play Spring Training games here in the Tampa Bay area, so it’s like their second home.

If its not a team from the East Coast, odds are, the stadium will have tons of open seats. I mean 10 to 20 thousand open seats!

The ballpark is small compared to the beautiful home of the New York Yankees, but still a great venue.

I sit here now, watching the sunrise as the birds dive into the water for their fish breakfast, and the dolphins playfully jump.

Have a wonderful day, and for those off from school this week, or on vacation from work, Enjoy!

4/7- 4/13 Photos of the Week

These Photos will not relate to Disney World (for the most part). You can check out my Walt Disney World Photos by clicking here.

Since I am on Vacation in beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida, I cannot update this week’s Photo of the Week on my main website. So, here it is:
